Skills
- identify the four key species of vernal pools and their eggs
- wood frog (Lithobates sylvaticus)
- spotted salamander (Ambystoma maculatum)
- blue spotted salamander (Ambystoma laterale)
- fairy shrimp
- identify species that may be located near vernal pools
- complete the standard data sheet
These surveys are important because the presence of certain species and the abundance of others can lead to the pool being classified as “significant” which will make it become federally protected.
I took two classes that allowed me to do this
- ENV 101: Introduction to Environmental Issues
- spring 2016
- ENV 319-B: Practicum in Field Ecology: Vernal Pools
- spring 2017
